Weather forecasting has a unique balance of combining the past, present, and future in order to stay informed. Lots of data goes into making forecasts and monitoring current conditions in real time. So, what do we look at? On the average day we look through close to 110 weather maps to do the forecast for severe weather and that’s before we even start monitoring the current weather! As storms develop, a mixture of radar outputs, satellite output images, surface measurements, atmospheric profiles diagrams, and model outputs are monitored to watch storm evolution and track.
